TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., Aug. 15 /PRNewswire/ — Last night, McKeel Hagerty announced the winners of Hagerty’s inaugural National Youth Model-Building Contest. The VIP judging panel consisted of McKeel Hagerty CEO of Hagerty Insurance, Jay Leno host of “The Tonight Show” on NBC, Manfred Fitzgerald Head of Brand and Design at Automobili Lamborghini, KC Crain Publisher of AutoWeek Magazine and Ed Gilbertson Chief Judge of prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The top five finalists and a parent traveled to Monterey, Calif. courtesy of Hagerty for the final judging and to experience the famed Monterey classic car weekend. Nine-year-old Tyler Urrutia from Miami, Florida was awarded the top prize from the judges for his model of a 1932 Ford Woody.
“We created this contest as a way to get young kids excited about classic cars and to offer a taste of the collector car hobby,” said McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty Insurance Inc. “We were pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming cheer and applause from the crowd as each youth participant was handed the award by a member of the judging panel. I can remember building model cars as a kid with my own customizations and am thrilled to provide that same excitement to younger generations while exposing them to one of the greatest classic car events of the year.”
Hagerty’s National Youth Model-Building Contest was created by Hagerty Plus — a membership program for collector car owners. Earlier this year, Hagerty Plus mailed out nearly 400 model car kits to more than 30 car clubs throughout the United States to host their own youth model-building competition. The winning car from each club was shipped back to Hagerty and photos were placed on for voting by the general public.
